This is a WW2 British WRNS (Women’s Royal Naval Service) Winter Service Uniform, consisting of the WRNS double-breasted serge jacket, matching serge skirt, WRNS cap with tally ribbon, and black service shoes. This was the standard cold-weather dress worn by WRNS ratings throughout the war.

This uniform represents the standard winter service dress worn by WRNS (Women’s Royal Naval Service) personnel during the Second World War. Made from regulation dark navy-blue serge wool, the double-breasted jacket features a tailored naval cut, two rows of brass or blackened naval buttons, notch lapels, and clean wartime lines.
The skirt is mid-calf length, made from the same heavy serge wool, with a straight naval pattern cut that was standard for women’s naval uniforms during the war. Rank or trade badges were worn on the sleeves; in this example, the wearer carries a WRNS rating badge on the upper sleeve.
The hat is the WRNS round cap (often called the WRNS Service Cap), with a stiffened crown and a black silk tally reading “H.M.S.” as worn by WRNS ratings attached to naval establishments or shore bases.
The uniform is completed with black stockings and black leather service shoes, the typical footwear for WRNS personnel during the period.
