This uniform was part of the official dress ensemble for women serving in the U.S. Army Women’s Auxiliary Corps (WAAC, established 1942) and later the Women’s Army Corps (WAC, from 1943 onward). The uniform consists of a dark olive-brown wool serge tunic-style jacket, a matching A-line skirt, and a cape or cloak sometimes worn over the jacket for warmth and formal presentation.
Our replication of the uniform is as per the original and the tunic features a belted waist, two large lower pockets, and a double-breasted button closure. Distinctive features include branch insignia or rank chevrons on the sleeves, epaulets on the shoulders, and occasionally, colored piping or service stripes indicating unit or rank (as seen in my image — medical branch).
The skirt is made in matching jacket fabric and color and is cut just below the knee. Underneath, the uniform is typically worn with a khaki o cotton shirt and tie, though this is not visible in the photograph. The ensemble is completed with brown leather service shoes, stockings, and either a garrison cap.
The cape seen here, with its purple lining and buttoned shoulder tabs, was used by officers and senior NCOs, adding distinction to the service uniform.
A great buy for reenactors, historians, museums, collectors and ideal for movies/theater/films.
You can specify your own branch of service colors and piping as well as custom tailoring at no extra cost.
