The WW1 Canadian Army Medical Corps (CAMC) Nursing Sister’s uniform was among the most distinguished worn by women serving during the Great War. This uniform represented the professionalism and dedication of Canadian nurses who served in field hospitals, casualty clearing stations, and hospital ships under both Canadian and British command between 1914 and 1918.
Our 100% accurate replication the uniform consists of a navy-blue serge dress with a high red wool collar and matching red cuffs, both edged in white piping. The front of the dress featured double rows of gilt buttons, signifying its semi-military nature. A wide wool belt with plain gilt buckle completes the ensemble. The dress was tailored for practicality, featuring large front pockets, full-length sleeves, and a mid-calf hemline for ease of movement. CAMC buttons and belt buckle are not available with us and we have yet to be able to source them. Demand is not sufficient to justify their manufacture at this stage.
While a a broad-brimmed navy felt hat with CAMC badge was worn for formal and outdoor use, it is unavailable with us just now, however the white cap which was substituted during indoor duties is available and included in the package.. The combination of dark navy wool and red facing distinguished CAMC nurses from other British Empire nursing services. The uniform conveyed dignity, authority, and compassion, and it became one of the most iconic female uniforms of WW1.
