The WWII U.S. Army ETO Jacket, popularly known as the “Ike Jacket” after General Dwight D. Eisenhower, was introduced in late 1944 for wear by U.S. troops in the European Theater of Operations. Designed as a waist-length wool jacket, it provided both comfort and a smart, tailored appearance for post-combat and Class A service wear.
Made from olive drab wool serge (OD Shade 33 or 51), the ETO jacket features a button front with zipper fly, two pleated breast pockets with scalloped flaps, shoulder epaulettes, adjustable waist tabs, and inner cotton lining. The design was adapted from the British battledress blouse, shortened for ease of movement and comfort when worn over the wool shirt or field uniform.
Worn by both officers and enlisted men, the “Ike Jacket” became the most recognizable post-1944 uniform of the U.S. Army, remaining in service well after the war ended.
