Our WW2 British army Officer/OR’s great is designed for durability and warmth – like the originals, it was worn both in the field and on parade throughout the 1939–45 period by officers and enlisted men alike. The greatcoat followed the same traditional pattern that evolved from the interwar years, with small distinctions between the officer and other ranks versions.
Our WW2 greatcoat, just like the originals, is made from heavy khaki wool melton cloth, averaging 32–34 oz per yard (approximately 1000–1100 gsm), it provides outstanding insulation and wind protection. The double-breasted design featured six large brass buttons, a wide notched collar that could be turned up against wind, shoulder straps, and two large flapped pockets. The back includes a half-belt and a vent for ease of movement. The other ranks’ pattern is cut more generously and lined partially in cotton drill, while the officer’s version was tailored with a smoother finish, finer wool, and includes full lining and better quality buttons.
