The WWII British Army Leather Jerkin was one of the most recognizable garments of the war, issued to all ranks for additional warmth and protection in the field. First introduced during World War I (also available on this website) and reissued with modifications in 1939, the jerkin was prized for its rugged construction and practicality. Worn over the battledress blouse, it provided insulation without restricting movement and was a staple item across all branches of the British and Commonwealth forces.
Our leather Jerkins, just like the originals, are made from genuine ox-hide leather (vegetable-tanned, approximately 2.5–3 mm thick), the jerkin featured a brown natural-grain finish, four front buttons, and a heavy khaki wool serge lining for warmth. The side seams were slightly flared for ease of wear over webbing or tunics. This pure ox-hide version represents the early and mid-war issue model, known for its toughness and distinctive smell that became familiar to generations of soldiers.
