Our Victorian Era, British army, Royal Engineers shell /mess jacket is fine tailored with the following specifications:

• Color: Scarlet superfine wool broadcloth (85% wool – all natural fabric, not a synthetic blend), traditional for Royal Engineers officers worn with superfine doeskin wool (98% wool, 2% silk, 11 oz. wt., soft touch, smooth, mill dyed) dark blue trousers, also available here, separately, or with tunic.

• Trousers have a single broad gold stripe down the side, matching the gold stripe on the tunic.

• Facings: Black velvet collar and cuffs, piped with gold lace.

• Braid & Lace: Gold cord Austrian knots and gimp lace on cuffs and shoulders — typical of the Engineers’ elaborate mess dress.

• Buttons: Gilt domed plain buttons (paired rows typical of officers).

• Epaulettes: Detachable gold shoulder cords with small gilt Engineer badges ( grenades) hand embroidered in gold bullion embroidery.

• Front Closure: Cutaway double-breasted front with ornate gold lace bars (unique to RE and some cavalry units).

• Rank distinction: The gold lace and shoulder cords here denote a senior officer.

• Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery from receipt of order, measures, payment etc.
