U.S. Army Air Corps Type A-1 Flight Jacket – 1930s Capeskin Leather Aviator Jacket

This authentic reproduction of the U.S. Army Air Corps Type A-1 Flight Jacket represents the earliest standardized leather flying jacket issued to American airmen in the inter-war period (introduced 1931). Made from seal-brown capeskin leather, the A-1 features a button-front closure, knitted wool collar, cuffs, and waistband, and two flapped front pockets with button fasteners.
Designed for open-cockpit aircraft of the early 1930s, it offered light protection with unrestricted movement. The jacket’s soft, fine-grain capeskin and compact fit gave pilots both warmth and a clean, trim profile. Predecessor to the famous A-2, the A-1 remains one of the most elegant and historically significant U.S. flight garments.
