This reproduction represents the enlisted men’s tunic worn by British line infantry in the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879, most famously by the 24th Regiment of Foot (later South Wales Borderers) at Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana.
The tunic is made from heavy scarlet wool serge, with dark blue facings on the collar and cuffs, and fastened with brass buttons (regimental buttons need to be ordered at a slightly increased cost) down the front. The rear features vent flaps and reinforced seams typical of the 1871 pattern. It is worn with the white buff leather valise equipment set, including cross-belts, waist belt, and two front ammunition pouches, all secured with brass fittings and regimental badge plate.
This combination formed the standard marching and fighting order for the British infantryman during the campaign.
