The WWII British Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) Nursing Khaki Drill Uniform was worn by female personnel serving in warm climates such as the Middle East, North Africa, and India between 1941 and 1945. The ATS was the women’s branch of the British Army, and while most members served in administrative, technical, and operational roles, a small number of ATS women were attached to medical and hospital units, requiring a lighter tropical uniform suitable for field and base hospital conditions.
Our 100% accurate replication of the ATS Khaki Drill (KD) nursing uniform consists of a short-sleeved / three-quarter-sleeved tunic and matching skirt made from light khaki cotton drill, designed for ventilation and comfort in tropical environments. The tunic is cut with a notched collar, two breast pockets, and a button-front closure, often worn with an open neck and tie. A self-fabric or web belt at the waist provides a tailored fit, and is included in the kit. The skirt matched the tunic in both color and fabric, usually knee- to mid-calf length, and fastened at the side with buttons.
ATS nurses and orderlies also wore a khaki cotton shirt under the tunic on formal duties, and a detachable khaki cotton collar is included. Headwear includes the soft ATS khaki drill field cap. Rank insignia are not provided, tunic comes with Red Cross insignia on the sleeves.
