The officer’s flysheet manufactured by is a copy of the versatile rectangular canvas canopy used extensively by both German and British forces during WW2. It measures approx. 11 × 13 ft This heavy-duty sheet provides shade and rain protection for command posts, officers’ quarters, mess areas, or field kitchens.
It is constructed from tan/ochre cotton duck canvas; the flysheet is reinforced along its edges with grommets and sewn-in loops for guy ropes (please see picture in gallery). Its neutral earth-tone color made it effective in desert and summer environments, particularly in North Africa and southern Europe.
Unlike the soldier’s shelter halves or Zeltbahn sheets, which were personal items, the officer’s flysheet was a unit-level item, issued in smaller numbers and transported by truck or wagon. Its larger size allowed for use with furniture (tables, desks, cots) or as extended shelter when paired with tents.
