The Highland Cutaway Tunic, often referred to as the Highland Doublet or Cutaway Coatee, is a formal full-dress jacket traditionally worn by officers and pipers of Scottish Highland regiments. Distinguished by its long, tapering front cutaway design and tail-style back skirts, it allows the sporran and kilt to remain visible — a defining feature of Highland ceremonial dress. Made from fine wool barathea or doeskin, the tunic is adorned with decorative cuff detailing, piping, and gilt or silver regimental buttons. The cutaway doublet is worn for levees, parades, and formal evening functions with a kilt, waist belt, plaid, and accoutrements.
