The UK Women’s Reserve Ambulance Corps (WRAC) uniform was one of the most distinctive female service uniforms of the First World War, symbolizing the vital role of women in military medical and logistical support. Established in 1915, the WRAC comprised women volunteers who drove ambulances, served as mechanics, and worked in field medical units across Britain, France, and Italy. Their uniform reflected both military practicality and feminine professionalism, designed for active service in demanding conditions.

Our 100% accurate version follows the exact specifications of the WRAC uniform and  consists of a khaki drill / khaki serge tunic (your choice) and a matching full-length skirt. The tunic followed a semi-military cut with four front pockets, buttoned cuffs, and a self-fabric belt for a fitted waist. It fastened with  brass buttons and featured shoulder straps, sometimes trimmed with green wool piping  bearing a small WRAC shoulder flash. The corps insignia, typically a green circular badge with the initials “WRAC” or medical symbol, was worn on the upper sleeve but is currently unavailable with us and is not included in the uniform package.

The skirt was ankle-length, cut wide for ease of movement, and matched the tunic fabric. For field use, the uniform was made of khaki cotton drill (approx. 8–9 oz per yard) or, for colder climates, khaki wool serge (14–16 oz). A khaki cotton shirt and black tie are worn underneath, and the full ensemble is completed with brown leather service boots, khaki puttees, and a  soft service hat, all of which are included in the package.

This practical yet distinguished uniform was worn by women who often operated under fire, driving ambulances to and from the front lines, and became a symbol of dedication and quiet bravery.

Custom tailoring/alterations available at no extra cost.
