The WWII U.S. Army Air Forces A-2 Flight Jacket was standard issue for pilots and aircrew of the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1931 through 1945. Made from top-grain horsehide or goatskin leather, this jacket became a symbol of American aviators and their daring spirit in both the European and Pacific theaters. Each unit or crew often personalized their jackets with painted squadron insignia, patches, or artwork, making every original unique.
