The WWII U.S. Navy M1944 Denim Trousers were the standard-issue enlisted work pants introduced toward the end of the war, replacing earlier button-fly dungarees. Made from durable indigo-blue cotton denim, these trousers were designed for shipboard, dockyard, and shore-duty wear as part of the Navy’s working uniform, paired with the chambray shirt.
Our version of the M1944pattern features a zipper fly (introduced in place of buttons for convenience), two slanted front pockets, one rear patch pocket, and a wide waistband with belt loops. Cut straight in the leg with a loose, comfortable fit, they provided unrestricted movement for sailors performing mechanical or deck work. The deep indigo denim was pre-shrunk and faded naturally with use, becoming a characteristic part of the wartime Navy look.
These trousers were worn from 1944 through the Korean War, often with the U.S. Navy chambray shirt and denim jumper, forming the classic WWII “blue work” uniform.
