WW1 Imperial German Army Dunkelblau Tunic & Trousers set
Our WW1 Imperial German Army Dunkelblau tunic is a faithful reproduction of the traditional pre-war German service coat, worn by many units during the opening campaigns of the Great War before field-grey became universal.
Made from high-quality dark blue wool (“Dunkelblau”), the tunic is cut to the classic 19th-century style, with a smart, tailored body and stand-and-fall collar. It features eight polished metal buttons down the front and distinctive red piping that runs along the front edges, collar, and cuffs. The turnback cuffs are decorated with additional piping and buttons, marking the sharp appearance of the Kaiser’s army on parade and in the field.
The tunic is designed with skirt pockets and rear vents, ensuring both practical use and historical accuracy. Regimental distinctions such as shoulder straps and branch-colored facings could be added according to unit and rank. While gradually replaced by the Feldgrau (field-grey) M1907/10 uniform after 1910, many soldiers entered WW1 still wearing the Dunkelblau, making it a key transitional garment of the Imperial Army.
Ideal for collectors, reenactors, museums, and living history displays, this reproduction captures the smart and imposing look of the German soldier at the dawn of the First World War.
WW1 Imperial German Army Dunkelblau Trousers
Our reproduction WW1 Imperial German Army Dunkelblau trousers are crafted to pair perfectly with the traditional dark blue tunic worn by German soldiers in the years leading up to and during the early stages of the First World War.
Made from durable dark blue wool cloth, the trousers follow the regulation cut of the period, featuring a high waist with button fly and adjustment tabs at the back for a secure fit. They are designed with side seam pockets for practicality and reinforced seat and inner leg seams for long wear in field or garrison use.
Distinctive red piping runs down the outer seams, matching the detailing on the tunic and completing the sharp appearance of the Imperial soldier’s full dress and early war field uniform. These trousers were originally worn tucked into knee-high marching boots or with gaiters, depending on the soldier’s branch of service and campaign.
An ideal choice for collectors, reenactors, museums, and historical displays, these trousers recreate the authentic look and feel of the German Army’s Dunkelblau uniform ensemble.
