An accurate reproduction of the U.S. Army War of 1812 Coatee, patterned on the official 1812 uniform regulations. This striking short-tailed coat embodies the American adaptation of Napoleonic military tailoring, with bold facings and extensive gold lace across the chest and cuffs.
The coat is cut from midnight blue wool broadcloth with scarlet standing collar and cuffs, and trimmed in bright yellow worsted lace, denoting a line infantry officer’s pattern (though some artillery and volunteer units also used similar facing combinations). The double row of lace loops across the chest and the short skirts with turnbacks reflect the French-inspired fashion of the era.
This uniform was worn by officers and senior non-commissioned officers during the War of 1812, notably by troops serving on the Canadian frontier, Great Lakes region, and in coastal defense garrisons.
