Our WW1 British Army Trench Cap is a faithful reproduction of the soft field service cap worn by British soldiers in the early years of the Great War, before the steel Brodie helmet became standard in 1916. Known as the “trench cap” or “service dress cap,” it was widely worn on the Western Front and in other theatres of war.
Made from khaki wool serge, the cap features a soft crown, a stiffened peak, and a leather chinstrap secured with brass buttons. Its practical yet smart design offered a degree of shade and protection while retaining a military appearance. The trench cap is closely associated with the early-war image of the British “Tommy.”
