This magnificent reproduction represents the officer’s scarlet tunic used during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. Tailored from fine scarlet wool melton with buff facings, it features gold lace edging, cuffed sleeves, and brass plain buttons (regimental buttons are availble on a paid separately basis) in double-breasted alignment. The stand-and-fall collar and cuff panels are faced in buff with gilt lace and regimental insignia embroidery. The tunic is lined in polished cotton with internal pockets and reinforced shoulder padding, bearing rank distinctions on gold-corded epaulettes.
It was worn with dark blue trousers with a red stripe, white buff leather Sam Browne or waist belt, black knee-high boots, and a white colonial service pith helmet (or, occasionally, a blue home service helmet with gilt spike for formal wear). Officers also carried a sword with steel scabbard suspended from leather frog slings.
