This accurate reproduction depicts the Other Ranks’ infantry tunic worn by the 24th Regiment of Foot during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879. Constructed from heavy scarlet wool serge, it features dark rifle-green facings on the cuffs and collar, with white worsted tape detailing in the form of knot loops on the cuffs and white piping along the shoulder seams and collar edge.
The front closes with seven brass buttons (regimental buttons extra), and the tunic includes internal pockets, a black cotton lining, and rear vents with reinforcement stitching for long wear. It was worn with dark blue wool trousers (narrow red stripe), white buff leather valise equipment, and black ankle boots with gaiters, completing the standard line infantry uniform of the Zulu Campaign. This pattern was regulation from 1872–1881, marking the final era of the true “redcoat” in field service.
