The WWII U.S. Army Air Forces A-2 Flight Jacket was standard issue for pilots and aircrew of the U.S. Army Air Corps and later the U.S. Army Air Forces from 1931 through 1945. Made from top-grain horsehide or goatskin leather, this jacket became an icon of American aviation history.
The A-2 jacket features a front zipper closure, two snap-flap patch pockets, knit wool cuffs and waistband, and a pointed shirt-style leather collar. The interior is lined with cotton drill, and early versions included epaulettes and a hook-and-eye neck fastener. Crews often customized their jackets with painted squadron insignia, name tags, or nose-art motifs.
