U.S. Army Air Forces Type B-3 Shearling Flight Jacket – WWII Heavyweight Leather Flying Coat

The Type B-3 Flight Jacket was the standard issue high-altitude shearling jacket for U.S. Army Air Forces bomber crews during World War II (introduced 1934, standardized 1938). Designed for subzero temperatures in unheated aircraft, it was constructed from thick sheepskin shearling with a leather-finished exterior and natural fleece lining.
The jacket features two heavy front panels joined by reinforced seams, a high shearling collar with twin throat straps, and leather adjustment tabs at the waist. Zippered front closure and heavy horsehide reinforcements on seams ensured durability at 25,000 feet altitude. The B-3 provided unmatched insulation and became one of the most iconic flight jackets of WWII.
