Our M1915 French Army Greatcoat is a faithful reproduction of the definitive overcoat worn by French soldiers during the First World War. This Overcoat/greatcoat replaced the previous colorful prewar model and was extensively worn with the Horizon blue uniform.
Our WW1 M1917 French Army reproduction overcoat/greatcoat is made from heavy horizon blue wool (22 oz. wt., mill dyed using natural pigments, made entire with natural fibres and contains no synthetic blends), the greatcoat is cut long, extending below the knee to provide warmth and protection in the mud, rain, and cold. It features a double-breasted front with two rows of six buttons, a high stand-and-fall collar, and large turned-back cuffs. Two large exterior pockets are set low on the skirt for carrying small items. Shoulder straps (épaulettes) allowed for unit slip-ons or rank insignia. Tailored using natural threads – no synthetics used in it’s construction anywhere.
The rear was vented with a slit to allow marching and movement, while the ample skirt provided some protection from wet ground when soldiers sat or lay in trenches. Soldiers often rolled or draped their greatcoat when not in use, making it a central part of their field kit.
This WW1 French Army M1917 overcoat/greatcoat reproduction is made from authentic-weight horizon blue wool, correct metal buttons, and historically accurate tailoring, making it ideal for reenactors, museums, living history, films, movies, theater and collectors seeking an accurate representation of the French soldier’s iconic trench coat.
