US army mess dress jacket and vest (officer’s evening uniform)

This is our replication of the U.S. Army officer’s mess dress jacket and vest, an evening formal uniform worn for military dinners, receptions, and ceremonial occasions. The jacket is tailored in dark blue wool barathea with bright yellow facings, denoting the cavalry branch, although other branches used their own facing colors. it features a short-cut front with a double row of decorative buttons, satin lapels, and gold shoulder insignia. the matching waistcoat (vest) is of the same yellow facing color, worn with a white dress shirt and black bow tie. This uniform reflects the elegant military tradition of formal evening wear, used from the early 20th century to the present, in ceremonial occasions.

armor – green (darker shade introduced post-ww2; earlier units often retained yellow like cavalry)
engineers – scarlet with white piping (or plain scarlet in mess dress)

signal corps – orange
quartermaster corps – buff (light tan or cream)
medical corps – maroon
chaplain corps – black with branch insignia

general officers (brigadier and above) wore dark blue facings with gold braid, regardless of branch.
