Our French Army M1884 Képi (Pre-War Pattern) is a faithful reproduction of the traditional headgear worn by French soldiers at the outbreak of the First World War in August 1914. Retaining its bold 19th-century colours, the képi is made in dark blue wool with a vivid garance (red) crown and piping.
The cap follows the 1884 pattern with a circular flat crown, stiffened vertical sides, and a short black leather visor. A blackened leather chinstrap, secured by brass buttons on either side (1 nos.), completed the design. Unit numbers, embroidered in gilt thread, can be done as per your instructions and displayed prominently on the front band. You can give embroidery details by WhatsApp/Email/using the “custom tailoring request” tab in the ordering section.
It’s vivid colors made it dangerous to use and made it’s users easily visible targets of enemy soldies. It therefore gave way to Horizon blue caps and Helmets later on in the war.
This faithful reproduction captures every authentic detail: deep blue wool band, red crown, black leather visor and chinstrap, and correct unit numeral insignia. Perfect for collectors, living history interpreters, movies, films, theater, re-enactors, museums, or a gift to Dad.
