The WWII US Army M1943 Combat Service Boots were the standard-issue lace-up field boots that formed part of the newly introduced 1943 uniform system. Developed to replace the earlier low-service shoes and leggings, these boots provided better ankle support and durability while remaining lighter and more flexible than buckle-top models.
Construction & Materials
Made from full-grain cowhide leather, the M1943 boots were issued in two main finishes: natural vegetable-tanned leather and russet brown, both designed to darken naturally with polish and wear. They feature a 9-eyelet lace-up front, reinforced toe box, stitched heel counter, and Goodyear-welted sole construction for strength and easy repair in the field.
Sole Options
The soles of this m-1943 combat service boots were usually rubber-composition “Vibram-style” or double leather soles with hobnail or cleated traction pattern for improved grip.

Each pair weighed approximately 1.9 to 2.1 kg (4.2–4.6 lb) depending on size and sole type, providing a balance between strength and flexibility for long marches and rough terrain.
These boots saw widespread issue from mid-1943 through 1945 to infantry, airborne, and mechanized units in all theaters of war, and became the forerunner of the postwar service boot designs.
