Highlights

Our WW1 British Army Khaki Drill (KD) Shorts have the salient features:

*Material: Made from lightweight khaki drill (cotton twill) fabric, designed for hot climates such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, Palestine, and India.

  • Cut: Similar to service trousers but cut short, usually ending just above the knee.

  • Waist: High-waisted with belt loops or buttons for braces/suspenders. Some versions had an integrated cloth belt, ours don’t.

  • Pockets: Two slash side pockets; some had a small watch pocket (Ours don’t). Rear pockets were uncommon in earlier issues.

  • Closure: Button fly front.

  • Legs: Straight cut, with no turn-up. They were worn loose, often with puttees or hose-tops (long knitted socks).

  • Usage: Worn mainly by troops in tropical and desert campaigns where khaki drill uniforms were issued, including infantry, mounted units, and support services.

  • Head-to-toe pairing: Typically worn with khaki drill tunics or shirts, puttees or hose tops, and ankle boots.
