WW1 Australian AIF Greatcoat (Reproduction)
Our reproduction of the WW1 Australian Imperial Force (AIF) greatcoat reflects the heavy wool overcoat issued to ANZAC soldiers for use in the harsh conditions of Gallipoli, the Western Front, and the Middle East. Worn over the service tunic, the greatcoat was essential for protection against cold, rain, and mud.
Crafted from thick khaki-drab wool , the greatcoat is single-breasted with a single row of large buttons, extending well below the knees for maximum coverage. It features a broad notched collar that could be turned up in bad weather, and deep slash pockets for warmth and practicality. Reinforced seams and heavy-duty stitching ensure durability in campaign conditions.
The Australian greatcoat closely followed the British Army design but often used a slightly browner shade of khaki, reflecting local supply variations. Our reproduction stays true to the original pattern, offering an authentic and functional garment suitable for reenactors, collectors, and museum displays.
