Authentic reproduction of the Imperial German Army General’s uniform (1914–1918), featuring field-grey (Feldgrau) tunic with red piping, stand-and-fall collar, and gold rank distinctions.

The Imperial German General’s uniform of the First World War was among the most striking and distinguished of the Kaiser’s army. While reflecting the shift to the practical feldgrau (field grey) service dress introduced in 1907, the general officers’ uniform retained traditional colors, fine tailoring, and elaborate insignia that conveyed rank and prestige.  Please see highlight section for what insignia is included in the Tunic and what isn’t.

  • Tunic (Feldrock):

    • Tailored from high-quality field-grey wool, cut longer than enlisted and officer tunics.

    • Red piping along the front closure, collar, cuffs, and rear seams, a hallmark of general officers’ dress.

    • Stand-and-fall collar in dark green facing cloth, decorated with gold embroidered oakleaf motifs (general’s distinction). Comes with collar runes.

    • Swedish cuffs with red piping and gold embroidery.

    • Closed with eight front buttons, which are plain Gold plated, we don’t carry Gilded crown buttons.

  • Rank Distinctions:

    • Generals wore gold shoulder boards, braided with silver interwoven cord and red underlay, denoting their status.  Shoulder boards are included in the offer, please see highlights.

    • Collar embroidery and gilded buttons further reinforced their high command role.

  • Trousers:

    • Field-grey wool with double red stripes along the outer seams, reserved for general officers.  The trousers come with lampassening, and trousers need to be ordered separately by email. If Ordered with the tunic, they are US$ 100 delivered, if ordered alone, they are US$ 130/pair delivered.

  • Headgear:

    • Generals often wore the peaked service cap (Schirmmütze) in feldgrau with red piping and cockades, price details and description has been given in the highlight section.

  • Greatcoat (optional):

    • Double-breasted feldgrau with red piping and turn-back cuffs, completing the formal appearance.  Please email for specifications, pictures, quote and ordering. It is available.

  • Usage:

    • Worn by senior commanders of the Imperial German Army during inspections, staff duties, parades, and even in the field (though with simplified gear).
