Authentic reproduction of the WWI Imperial German Army cloth ammunition bandolier, designed to carry Gewehr 98 rifle clips, used widely in the trenches from 1914–1918.

The cloth ammunition bandolier was an additional means of carrying rifle cartridges used by Imperial German soldiers during the First World War. While the standard leather pouches remained regulation issue, shortages and the demands of trench warfare led to the production of lighter, practical cloth bandoliers that could be worn over the shoulder or across the chest.

  • Material & Construction:

    • Made from strong cotton canvas , often in field-grey, earth-brown, or greenish shades.

    • Reinforced stitching for durability under field conditions.

  • Design Features:

    • Typically featured five to six pockets, each sized to hold a 5-round stripper clip for the Gewehr 98 rifle.

    • Flaps secured by button, stud, or simple fold-over closure to keep cartridges in place.

    • Shoulder strap or loop allowed the bandolier to be slung diagonally across the torso for quick access.

  • Functionality:

    • Enabled soldiers to carry extra ammunition beyond the standard 60 rounds in leather cartridge pouches.

    • Particularly valued by stormtroopers, sentries, and machine-gun teams, who needed rapid access to spare clips.

  • Service Use:

    • Common from 1915 onwards, especially as production switched to more economical and quickly produced fabric equipment.

    • Seen in period photographs worn over tunics, greatcoats, and even leather trench gear.

This faithful reproduction is ideal for reenactors, collectors, and museums, representing a practical and often overlooked item of the German soldier’s kit in WWI.
