Our Italian Officers’ Breeches are a good replica of World War I breeches, which were tailored garments, distinct from the standard issue trousers worn by ordinary soldiers. They are constructed in wool grigioverde (grey-green), and they follow the official uniform regulations introduced in 1909.
They are cut closer to the body, with a sharply tapered leg for wear with high riding boots. They are reinforced at the inner thigh and seat for durability, and finished with neater seams and lined waistbands for comfort. Summer breeches for Senior Officer’s made in lightweight cotton Drill in riding cut style for mounted service are also available in this section – please see the product menu space.
These breeches maintain the practical Italian military silhouette: broad in the thigh for movement, narrowing below the knee to be secured with puttees, gaiters, or polished boots. They are usually worn with the officer’s tunic, Sam Browne-style belt, and pistol holster, completing the classic WW1 Italian officer’s field dress.
