The WW2 German Army canopy flysheet, or Sonnensegel, as manufactured and sold by us is a large rectangular canvas sheet designed for group use in the field. Unlike the individual soldier’s Zeltbahn 31 shelter quarter, which was triangular and multipurpose, the canopy flysheet was issued at the unit level for covering mess areas, field kitchens, supply dumps, vehicles, or as an extension to tents.
The German Army canopy flysheet is constructed from heavy cotton canvas in field-grey/ tan (your choice), the canopy flysheet features reinforced edges with grommets and sewn-in loops for ropes or poles. Its simple design makes it highly versatile — it can be pitched as a sunshade, rain cover, or even strung between vehicles as improvised shelter.
The canopy flysheet was not a personal item, but a logistical tool, carried in unit transport and deployed where overhead cover was required.
