Our replication of the U.S. M1917 Cartridge Belt which was the standard ammunition equipment issued to American soldiers during the First World War, replacing the earlier M1910 pattern in late 1917 is an exact copy of the original. Designed to carry rifle cartridges for the M1903 Springfield and later the M1917 Enfield rifles, this belt formed part of the broader M1917 web equipment set used by the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in France.
Our M1917 belt is constructed from heavy woven cotton webbing in olive drab khaki, the belt consists of ten double pockets (twenty cartridge pouches total), each capable of holding one five-round clip. The belt features an improved garrison-style closure and reinforced flaps with lift-the-dot fasteners, replacing the original snap fasteners of the M1910. Eyelets are provided along the lower edge for attaching hooks or field gear, and the rear includes a metal adjusting buckle for size regulation.
Originally manufactured by contractors such as Mills and Russell, the M1917 cartridge belt became an iconic symbol of the American soldier in WWI and remained in limited use during the early interwar years.
