WWI (WWI, World War One, Great War) Australian, ANZAC, New Zealand Army Uniforms & Gear.
Welcome to Ujna Universal’s page for the ww1, wwi, world war one, great war, Australian, ANZAC, New Zealand Army Uniforms & Gear. We have successfully replicated each article of the uniform and gear of the Australian ww1 (wwi, world war one) (AIF) army down to the smallest detail to bring your museum quality articles. This aspect of our business is still in it’s infancy, largely due to lack of demand for New Zealand army (NZEF) products and fewer re-enactors in the AIF era compared to others. We have, however, managed to replicate all the uniform and webbing articles on the ANZAC, AIF and NZEF armies and are working on most of the other equipments to round off the militaria requirements for reenactors, collectors and living history enthusiasts for this era. Our biggest success was in replicating exactly the 100% wool Bedford cord fabric for use in breeches or Jodhpurs. Here are some of our uniforms, webbing and gear for the Great War (ww1, wwi, world war one) Australian (AIF) army and ANZAC forces:

Great War ww1 (wwi, world war one) Australian (AIF) webbing gear: Our webbing is replicated from the yarn onwards. We do not dye webbing, we dye the yarn and then actually make the webbing from this yarn on web looms which were actually used to make webbing. The results are obvious. Every metal article has been carefully replicated by making a pressure die, not a casting die which is normally used. The basic set of equipment consisted of a 3 inch wide waist belt, with two angled 2 inch buckles at the rear. To these buckles the shoulder straps attach. These shoulder straps are 2 inches wide, and go over the shoulder and then buckle to the left and right hand ammo pouches, at the front of the belt. The left and right hand ammunition pouches consisted of five individual pockets, three underneath and two above, the shoulder strap is buckled to the top of the set and passed behind and underneath, there is a diagonal 1″ strap leading to the rear, this is to secure the lower portion of the pack. When the rifle ammo pouches are not worn, these shoulder straps can be attached to a pair of brace attachments, or simply looped about the belt. A haversack is supplied that can be worn in a variety of positions, and methods. In this example it is worn hanging below the waist belt, but it can be also worn in the middle of the back, the lower 1 inch buckles, fixed to two 1 inch diagonal straps coming from the ammo pouches or the ‘brace’ attachments. An entrenching tool carrier, and water bottle carrier are also worn at or below the waist. The entrenching tool is a two piece device and the handle of which is carried strapped to the bayonet scabbard, and attached to the bayonet frog. This piece is call the ‘helve carrier’ or ‘helve attachment’ and is probably one of the most difficult pieces to locate today. A large pack was also carried and this was almost universally carried only on the back. Two long 1 inch straps were required to be used when fitting the large pack, these are known as the valise straps. The mess tin was carried where convenient, usually in the haversack, New Zealand Army Uniforms & Gear.

Sanjay,
Everyone loved the tunic and have high hopes for the breeches. The response for uniforms was a lot more than I expected. More than I can handle. I am sending out the size chart and your contact information to the 25 members of the unit. You should be hearing from them over the next few days. Ron Turfitt’s uniform was great too. Some of my members are interested in the puttee’s and gray wool shirts he (Turfitt) sent you as well. What would be an ensemble price for the complete Australian uniform (Jacket and Breeches)? and a total ensemble price for an Australian Jacket, Breeches, Grey Shirt and Puttees?
We thank Maj.Guy Gormley for his invaluable assistance, original samples, insights, constructive critiscism and encouragement.
